Extrapool 08.03.2012

by wieman

In 2011 we heard a rumor: Peter Hook was to come to Eindhoven (The Netherlands) to perform Joy Division songs. We had a CD with Martin Hannett productions being reworked by us. So naturally we tried to acquire the support slot, but apparently the Minny Pops were about reform and they played the support to Joy Division in 1980. But it was suggested we could probably work together. We talked with Wally and set ourselves to work: how would Minny Pops sounds as if played by us. We recorded a short instrumental version of 'Dolphin's Spurt' and a long start for what could be a set. That was mid 2011. Early 2012 Wieman was invited to play at the Nijmegen leg of the Ultra four city series and Wally was going to be present. We thought it would be great to have him sing on all the pieces, but in the end we asked him to play stylophone of 'Springtime' and sing on 'Dolphin's Spurt'. The live recording of those two ended up on the Ultra CD compilation, and we were told the rest of the recording was so-so. However Jos Smolders @ Earlabs fixed it for us and here it is, bright shining as a star. Richard Forster does the announcement, Wally plays in the first five minutes. Red Bol did the cover. The two pieces from 2011 appear as bonus pieces.
